Bengali actor Vikram Chatterjee who was on the wheels when the road mishap happened on April 29 that left model Sonika Chauhan dead ‘ was earlier released on bail but now has been charged of culpable homicide not amounting to murder under section 304 of Indian Penal Code which indicates to imprisonment for upto 10 years. Earlier he was charged with causing death due to rash driving under section 304(a). The plea that was filed in the court to lodge a case against Vikram has been finally accepted on Tuesday.
Days after the car crash, Vikram had called a press conference and said that he was neither drunk nor speeding the car but after further police interrogation, he confessed that he had consumed alcohol but within controllable limits. He also claimed that he was driving at a speed between 60 to 70 kmph.
After Vikram’s press meet, Chauhan’s friends protested on social media and then filed a written statement to the police claiming Vikram as drunk at the night club. City police has seized all the CCTV footages of the nightclubs, which Vikram and Sonika had attended on the night of April 28. More than 20 person’s statements have been recorded. Vikram is also being questioned by Tollygaunge police. The forensic tests suggest that the car wa at a speed between 95 to 105 kmph.
Till now only one case has been registered so far against Vikram and on the basis of this complaint necessary action has been initiated.
