Paddler Aadil Anand finally gave a brilliant performance at the 2018 Tunisia Junior and Cadet Open TT in the harbour city of Rades, Tunisia on Friday.The boys, in the end, achieved two gold, two silver and two bronze medals in the ITTF Junior World Junior Circuit tournament.
Would be 13 Aadil defeated Algeria’s Abdelwahab Bellahsene 3-1 (11-6, 9-11, 11-5, 11-6) and achieved the honours in Mini-Cadet Singles. Then he teamed up with Payas Jain for the Cadet Boys and won double gold. The Indian duo triumphed beating Aziz Jerbi/ Amine Mohamed Oueslati in straight games 11-9, 11-7, 11-8.
He was on the cloud nine after winning it and thanked TTFI and his coach Kamlesh Mehta for their guidance. “I am so happy that after three years of hard work, I am being rewarded for my efforts. I will cherish this for a long time, particularly as it’s my first title for India. I believe this will spur me on for subsequent tournaments,” he said to the media.
Payas won the silver in the Cadet boys losing title clash to China’s Liu Menglong 3-1 (6-11, 13-11, 11-9, 11-7). Junior Boys singles final had the best of Manush Shah, but he won a silver as he failed to win against Iran’s Amin Ahmadian, losing 2-4 (7-11, 11-5, 11-9, 8-11, 10-12, 9-11).He also managed to bag a Bronze Medal as he and Manav Thakkar were the losing semi-finalists in the Junior Boys Doubles. Chinese pair of Wang Yihao and Zhang Shangzheng beat them by 3-1. The other bronze medal was won by Mainak Nistala who lost to Aadil Anand semis of the Mini-Cadet Boys’ singles.
