First Women Fashion Week of Saudi Arabia: Breaking the Stereotypes

Saudi Arab is very well known for its conservative image across the world. But, they have finally decided to break stereotypes. They have decided to launch a women-only fashion week.

Several top-notch brands like Roberto Cavalli and Jean Paul Gaultier will showcase their beautiful collection. Besides, designs by Middle Eastern, Brazilian, US and Russian designers will also be there.

After arranging the first cycle race for women, Arab is finally getting out of the age-old conservative mentality that chained their women. The fashion week is a proof of that and it is open only for women!

The fashion extravaganza will conclude on Saturday. It will end with a Russian ballet performance. It is only for women audience and will be held at Riyadh’s Ritz-Carlton Hotel. The women are very much excited for their first fashion week. “We are so excited because this is the first fashion week in Saudi Arabia, so we are making history,” model Anita Dmycroska told AP.

Layla Issa Abouzeid, Saudi Arabia country director for the Dubai-based Arab Fashion Council (AFC) is the organiser of the event.
She is expecting 1500 women to attend this big day. It is seen that under Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the conservative Arab has eased. He has introduced public concerts and lifted bans on cinemas and women driving.
